Rethink NTx: An invitation to voice your disapproval and stand with our community PLEASE ACT TODAY
We are calling on our community to voice their concerns about the NTx project, a major high-voltage infrastructure project currently being planned that will significantly alter the northern face of the Barossa Valley.
If allowed to proceed, Corridor 5 will see a procession of heavy-industrial transmission towers constructed directly across premium grape-growing areas.
The scale of these structures is staggering—standing up to 75 metres tall, they threaten to permanently alter our iconic, globally recognized rural vistas.
If you wish to protect the integrity of our farming districts and support the families who care for them, you are invited to make your voice heard through three simple avenues:
Rethink NTx: Protecting Our Agricultural Future and Regional Heritage PLEASE ACT TODAY
A major high-voltage infrastructure project is currently being planned that will significantly alter the northern face of the Barossa Valley.
Proposed by ElectraNet, the Northern Transmission Project (known as NTx) involves constructing a new transmission line from the Greater Adelaide Region to Whyalla.
Astonishingly, ElectraNet want to send this transmission line north via the Barossa Valley and its districts.
This Barossa Valley route (known as Corridor 5) places an industrial footprint directly into high value viticultural and agricultural zones.
Electranet NTx Project Community Public Consultation

Seppeltsfield Road iconic avenue of palms – urgent state government action needed
Please write to Premier Malinauskas to ask him to act on his commitment to preserve the Seppeltsfield Road avenue of palms.
56 palms in Marananga are growing into the overhead 33kv powerlines and South Australian Power Networks is requesting a solution.
Light Regional Council has been liaising with South Australian Power Networks to determine the exact total cost for the undergrounding. An approach has also been made to the state government to contribute to this cost.
However, at this point in time, the state government has not responded with a commitment to underwrite part of the project cost.
Planning Minister’s decision on Southern Barossa Winery & Tourist Accommodation
Media statement: re Planning Minister approval of large-scale 150-room, 6-storey hotel & winery development on rural land, Williamstown
The approval by the Minister for Planning for development of a 150-room, 6 storey hotel, function centre and winery development on rural land on Hoffnungsthal Road, Williamstown is of great concern to the Barossa Region Residents’ Association.
The scale and intensity of this development is not envisaged in the Barossa Character Preservation Act, which specifically protects the agricultural land and rural vistas of the Barossa.

Concerns regarding the Southern Barossa Winery & Tourism Accommodation proposal
Southern Barossa Winery & Tourist Accommodation project is a large-scale development proposed on rural land in the Character Preservation district.
Located on existing vineyard, the development has potential for up to 1000 guests and staff on site, larger than numbers of Barossa townships:
Six-storey 150-room hotel, Restaurant accommodating 300 patrons, Function / conference facilities up to 100 attendees, Spa/wellness facilities, 500 tonne Winery & cellar door, restaurant & function space 450 patrons
Barossa Region Residents’ Association does not support the proposed Southern Barossa Winery & Tourist Accommodation (SBWTA) project due to 8 key concerns:
Our position on Tourist Accommodation development within the Barossa
Barossa Region Residents’ Association supports the development of premium, luxury tourist accommodation within the Barossa, appropriately designed and appropriately located.
We value the important economic benefit and job opportunities that increased tourism brings to our region, and we advocate for large-scale premium tourist accommodation to be located within Barossa townships, so that the economic benefit is shared with local cafes & restaurants, retailers and traders.
Barossa Region Residents’ Association supports the Character Preservation Act and recognises that the Barossa’s scenic vistas have a unique economic value, attracting visitation to the Barossa.
